The W trek is the most popular. You will start at one side of the park and it will take you 4 days to reach the other side (you’ll hike about 20-25 km a day). There are some free campsites and others require a small payment. The best part of hiking is Torres del Paine is the challenge of the hike, the adventure, the good company, the views and going back to basic: no cellphone, no luxury, just fun! This is one place where you will definitely have a good time!
Anyone can visit the park. You can do the W hike or just take your car and drive around. You can stay in luxury hotels, lodges or comfortable campsites. What should you definitely do? Take a boat trip on Lake Grey to see the massive glacier or rent a kayak and paddle in between icebergs.
The hike to the base of the Torres is amazing. Make sure you see this!
How to get there?
You can take a plane from Santiago to Puerto Natales (www.lan.com). From here you can take a bus into the park. You can rent your hiking gear in every hostel: tent, cooking equipment, sleeping bag, …
TIP: make sure to have cash with you. The ATMs are often empty and in the park there is no possibility to pay by card or withdraw money. Also take some basic food with you, the food in Torres del Paine is pretty expensive.
